I took the Muni train to Ocean Drive for a lunch talk at the City College San Francisco. Anthem and I agreed to meet at the entrance of the Rosenberg Library where the talk was going to be held. It was a Philippine Studies class so I screened Mindanao shorts, talked about them in brief, and jumped into the more exciting topic of cultural heritage and how it is to live in a world of contradictions.
"I've been thinking of getting a tattoo for weeks now," I confessed to the class. "But tattoo is forbidden in Sunni Islam." I wanted to add, "and boozing as well as homosexuality but I engage in both activities" but I didn't want to muddle their already confused state of mind.
After the talk, Anthem, Leo (a professor at CCSF who invited me to talk) and I had quick lunch at the cafeteria. Anthem had to dash to Bernal Heights where he was teaching. Leo drove me to the newly (re)opened California Academy of Sciences.
CAS was packed with schoolchildren and tourists. Good thing I had my SF City Pass so I didn't have to line up to get my ticket. I enjoyed the Steinhart Aquarium which included an exhibition on Philippine coral reefs. The Kimball Natural History Museum was also fascinating, with a special section on climate change. I just needed to take the tourist-y shots.
