Comment moderation is not only useful in filtering unwanted, nasty and sometimes life threatening comments (Yes, I received tons two years ago when I professed admiration of Salman Rushdie and when I hinted on a critical analysis of Islam's holy book). It also comes handy in protecting your blog and computer from viral infection. So far I received 36 comments with potent viruses that could leave any Windows user incapacitated for days. Thank heavens, I'm using Mac.
